A defining component of our programmes is our dedication and commitment to experiential and participatory learning processes.
We combine theoretical classroom-based learning with field-based learning experiences that facilitate students’ abilities to connect theories as discussed in lecture rooms to real community-based experiences. It is a requirement, therefore, on our programmes for course facilitators to organize field trips across the country and even beyond to compliment what is learned in class.
Our field trips have become a defining component that makes our programme unique. Students look forward to such moments as it provides them with rare opportunities to make creative connections between intellect and experience. We use the field studies to identify community-based problems, as well as opportunities, and to work collaboratively with local communities, government, development agencies and other knowledge-based institutions to explore transformative solutions.
These practical experiences have proved particularly instructive in the choices of specialization among our students. Ultimately, our students over the years have become hands-on and chose careers that allow them to combine theory to practice and in real world contexts.
